Last Week:
Love moves in mysterious ways....

Real-life lovers Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo translate this very romantic line of a famous love song in a real-life love story in Maalaala mo Kaya.

Judy Ann Santos portrays the role of Susan, a God-trusting mother who is compelled to work as a Guest Relation Officer (GRO) to earn money for her son, lazy brother and for father, who is a compulsive gambler. But despite her degrading work, Susan refuses to let other people destroy her self-respect and dignity.

The outlook on life of Susan suddenly becomes brighter as Ralph, (Ryan Agoncillo), a 27-year old happy go lucky “balikbayan”, who went back to the Philippines to find his father, enters her life. Susan suddenly puts behind all her problems as she falls in love with Ryan, only to find out that the love of her life doesn’t have respect for her and only sees her as a GRO friend.

But love will have its own mysterious ways to turn the tides around between Susan and Ralph, creating another real-life fairy tale-like love story.

This exciting episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya also features great character actors, Tommy Abuel, Dick Israel and Ces Quesada.

Eula Valdez Stars

Love. Attention. Guidance. These are just a few of the things that we have come to expect from our mothers. But what if your mother herself is in need of guidance? What happens when a mother cannot control herself, and passes on her habits to her children? And what if this habit involves passing on personal demons that can tear their small family apart?

This Thursday, April 14, ABS-CBN’s award-winning primetime drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya welcomes back Eula Valdez for the story of a mother who made some very bad personal choices.

Since separating from her husband, single mom Zeny (Eula Valdez) has had her hands full with three kids and keeping up both a home and a job. Despite her efforts, however, there is one thing she has no control over – her dependency on controlled substances. Soon, the mother who is supposed to offer her children guidance becomes the worst possible influence on her kids. How will she get out of her problems? Will she get a second chance with her family?

Eula, who has won several national and international acting awards from her always-stunning performances on Maalaala Mo Kaya, will be joined on this episode by co-stars Gardo Versoza, Alicia Alonzo, Glaiza de Castro, Joshua Dionisio, Simon Ibarra and first Star Circle Kids Quest winner Nash Aguas. This episode will be directed by Jerry Lopez Sineneng, from a debut Maalaala Mo Kaya script by Bong Ramos.

An Amerasian's Story

What if you’re put into the position of having to be a mother while searching for a mother yourself? Rising star Angelica Panganiban makes a triumphant return to Maalaala Mo Kaya this Thursday, April 7, when she plays the role of Marissa, a real-life Amerasian woman still in search of her biological mother, in this episode directed by acclaimed director Joel Lamangan from a script by Ayi Tamayo.

This episode explores the life of Marissa, who, despite being adopted by a loving foster mother (Jacklyn Jose), still longs to reunite with her birth mother. Her longing intensifies after she is maltreated by her foster father (Mike Magat) and molested by one of their neighbors. Hurt, she leaves her foster mother’s home and begins her search for her birth mother. Unfortunately, she only has dim childhood memories to help her, and her mother’s name: Rufina Canoy.

And so Marissa runs away from home and begins to forge her own destiny, which eventually includes a relationship with beautiful nightclub singer Rochelle (Dimples Romana). But when Rochelle gets a job offer in Japan, can Marissa become a surrogate mother for Rochelle’s daughter Lorie (Kristel Fulgar)?

This emotional episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya airs on Thursday, April 7, right after ABS-CBN Primetime Bida.

A Teacher’s Story

It’s graduation season again, but with the plight of the country’s thousands of public school teachers constantly in the headlines, many ask if the educational system is failing both our young students and our educators. Despite all this, teachers are still a cherished part of the Filipino culture, because as educators, people look up to them as role models and life guides.

So what would it be like to fall from such an exalted position? It is in this light that ABS-CBN’s Maalaala Mo Kaya presents this week’s very special episode, which looks into the life and sacrifices of one woman whose only dream was to be a teacher – but who ended up in prison.

Award-winning actress Hilda Koronel creates another memorable portrait as Vicky, a public school teacher and mother who finds that her love for her chosen vocation is bringing herself and her family ever closer to ruin. Together, Vicky and her husband Sammy (Michael de Mesa), a fellow teacher, try to feed, clothe and shelter their family on their combined meager incomes, but soon, Vicky decides that their efforts may not be enough. But will she be able to find another job to support her family? And how do her struggles destroy her little by little, until she finally finds herself facing a jail sentence?

A fine cast supports Hilda Koronel in this realistic portrait of the Filipino teacher. Apart from Mr. de Mesa, the episode features Perla Bautista, Monina Bagatsing, Hazel Ann Mendoza, Bryan Homecillo, Ge Villamil, Sharmaine Centenera and Yda Yaneza. The episode is directed by Andoy Ranay from a script by Maribel Ilag.
